This week, one of my families shared a moment that might seem small from the outside but meant the world to them.
After months of anxiety around school mornings, their child walked through the main school door calmly, holding their parent’s hand, and even managed a smile. No tears, no distress – just a quiet sense of “I can do this.”
For many families in the SEND community, these moments don’t come easily. They are built slowly, through patience, understanding, and the right support being in place. Behind that single step forward were countless conversations, adjustments, and a lot of perseverance from both the child and their family.
It’s a powerful reminder that progress doesn’t always look like big milestones or dramatic breakthroughs. Sometimes it’s a calmer morning, a new word spoken, a few extra minutes of engagement, or a moment of connection that wasn’t there before.
We want to celebrate those moments.
If you’re a parent or carer feeling like things are moving slowly, or not at all, please know this: progress is still happening, even when it’s hard to see. You are not alone in this journey, and the work you’re doing every day truly matters.
And when those small wins come – they deserve to be recognised, shared, and held onto.
