Policy Statement

SEND for Families Ltd is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people we work with. We recognise our responsibility to provide a safe, supportive, and protective environment for children, families, practitioners, and partner organisations.

All practitioners and associates working on behalf of SEND for Families Ltd are expected to share this commitment and act at all times in the best interests of the child.


Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Directors
  • Associate Practitioners
  • Tutors
  • Contractors
  • Administrative staff
  • Volunteers (where applicable)

It applies across:

  • Residential children’s homes
  • Family homes
  • Community settings
  • Online delivery
  • Educational and alternative provision settings

Safeguarding Lead

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):

The DSL is responsible for:

  • receiving safeguarding concerns
  • recording and escalating concerns
  • liaising with children’s homes, schools, and local authorities
  • maintaining safeguarding records
  • ensuring practitioner compliance

Safer Recruitment

All practitioners must:

  • hold an Enhanced DBS check
  • provide proof of identity
  • provide professional references
  • confirm relevant qualifications and experience
  • complete safeguarding induction
  • understand reporting procedures

Practitioners are responsible for maintaining up-to-date DBS certification where required.


Reporting Concerns

Any safeguarding concern must be reported immediately to the DSL.

This includes:

  • disclosures from children
  • signs of neglect or abuse
  • emotional wellbeing concerns
  • incidents of harm or risk
  • concerns regarding staff conduct

Practitioners must not investigate concerns independently.

All concerns must be recorded factually and shared without delay.


Confidentiality

Safeguarding information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with legal safeguarding responsibilities.

Confidentiality must never prevent appropriate safeguarding action.


Online Safety

Where support is delivered online:

  • professional boundaries must be maintained
  • sessions must be conducted appropriately
  • communication must remain professional
  • safeguarding concerns must be reported in the same way as face-to-face delivery

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if legislation or service requirements change.
