Pillar 1 - Steady Start
Trauma-informed mentoring
Steady Start provides trauma-informed mentoring designed
to support children who may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from learning. The approach recognises that behaviour is often a response to unmet emotional or sensory needs, and focuses on creating a sense of safety, trust, and stability. Through gentle, relationship-led support, children are helped to regulate, rebuild confidence, and re-engage with daily life and education at a pace that feels right for them.
For children who:
- Experience anxiety or emotional overwhelm
- Avoid school or struggle to attend
- Have low confidence or feel unsafe in learning environments
- Become dysregulated quickly or shut down
Support can include:
- Nervous system regulation strategies
- Relationship-based mentoring
- Emotional literacy development
- Gradual routine and school re-entry support
- Confidence building through strengths-based work
Outcome:
Children feel safer, calmer and more able to engage with daily life and learning.
